Equitable Distribution of City Services

LULAC 3147 advocates to ensure that city services are equally distributed during good years and that indigent populations do not bear the burden of budget cuts during lean ones. In partnership with Labor and other community organization, we have the ability to build strong coalitions of support. During the Covid-19 crisis, Council 3147 has distributed PPE and organized a mobile vaccination clinic in South Oxnard.

COVID-19 PPE Distribution

LULAC Oxnard Council 3147 procured PPE, including N-95 masks and hand sanitizer from its donors and community partners. The items were distributed during the Port of Hueneme food distribution drive in the Southwinds neighborhood in South Oxnard.

This effort was focused on addressing the lack of PPE in low-income communities. We take for granted the fact that many seniors don't have a 50-pack of masks handy like most of us.

Measure E

During lean budget years, it is the Latino community who shoulder the burden of the impacts of these cuts. Closed parks, shuttered libraries, unkept streets and alleyways.  LULAC joined a coalition of local organizations to advcate for the passage of Measure E - a half cent sales tax - to fill the gap in an unprecedented time in our community.

Cannabis Social Equity

LULAC 3147 advocated for a just Cannabis marketplace for the local community. Oxnard bore the brunt of a disastrous War on Drugs policy in the 1980's and early 1990's. Many members of our community were convicted of marijauna related drug crimes. Now that Cannabis is legal, we must ensure that those that intend to profit from it, are responsibly giving back to the community. More importantly, local people of color (the same that suffered through the War on Drugs) must be given the opportunity to take part in the local industry in order to create generational wealth from this emerging marketplace.
